Gunnison Valley Hospital (GVH) is a 24-bed, short term, acute care hospital owned and operated by the County of Gunnison. GVH is a Critical Access hospital, governed by a 7-member Board of Trustees appointed by the Gunnison County Commissioners and licensed by the State of Colorado. Since 1938, GVH has provided quality health care to the residents and visitors of the Gunnison County.
Our rural valley lends itself not only to standard medical and traumatic emergencies but also to extreme emergencies such as cold weather injuries and high altitude injuries. Medical emergencies are sudden and unpredictable and the EMS Department of Gunnison Valley Hospital is prepared 24 hours a day for rapid response and comprehensive care. Our EMS Service Area encompasses an area nearly twice the size the State of Delaware. As a result, our EMS response teams area highly trained and equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and medicines.
Gunnison Valley Hospital is a Level IV Trauma Center and local physicians staff the ER 24 hours a day, seven days a week. General Surgical, Orthopaedic and OB/GYN consultants are available on an on call basis. The ER department is supplied with state-of-the-art equipment necessary to meet the demands of any patients with ailments ranging from bronchitis to multi-system trauma. Saint Mary’s Hospital of Grand Junction offers flight for life helicopter service to Gunnison Valley Hospital.
