About Forza Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine
At Forza, we believe recovery is more than healing—it's reclaiming strength, purpose, and independence. As a veteran-owned, independently operated outpatient clinic, we proudly serve Augusta and the greater Kennebec County region with a deep commitment to clinical excellence and community care.
Founded on the principles of excellence, empiricism, and empowerment, our practice blends cutting-edge, evidence-based therapy with the personal connection that only a local clinic can provide. We are deeply rooted in orthopedic and sports medicine and work with a broad spectrum of patients—from post-op recovery and chronic pain management to athletic performance and injury prevention.
We don’t just treat symptoms; we uncover root causes and build long-term, sustainable paths to wellness. Our team takes pride in educating and equipping clients to regain control over their health—not just during therapy, but far beyond it.
What makes Forza different is our culture: supportive, collegial, and growth-minded. We foster an environment where therapists are trusted, patients are heard, and innovation is welcomed. Whether you’re a recent graduate or an experienced clinician, you’ll find that Forza is a place where your work matters, your input is valued, and your career can thrive.
When you join Forza, you join a movement—to restore, to strengthen, and to lead with purpose.
Company History
Our Story: The History of Forza Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine
Forza Physical Therapy was founded by Dirk Kokmeyer, PT, DPT, SCS, PhD. Dirk has over 25 years of experience in orthopedic and sports physical therapy. He began his career in Vail, Colorado working with a renowned group of surgeons at the Steadman Clinic (formally The Steadman-Hawkins Clinic). There, he worked with several profession and Olympic athletes in all areas of sports. He is lead author of several peer-reviewed papers and book chapters, and a nationally recognized speaker.
Forza Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine was born from a simple but powerful idea: that recovery should be personal, purposeful, and empowering. Founded by a military veteran with a deep commitment to service and resilience, Forza was established in Augusta, Maine, with a mission to bring high-quality, evidence-based care to individuals of all backgrounds—whether recovering from surgery, returning to sport, or seeking a better quality of life.
The name Forza means “strength” in Italian—and strength, in every form, has guided our journey since day one. What started as a small outpatient clinic has grown into a trusted community resource for orthopedic rehabilitation, sports medicine, and functional movement care. We've built our reputation not on volume, but on integrity, outcomes, and relationships.
As a veteran-owned business, we operate with values learned through service: discipline, teamwork, adaptability, and respect. These principles influence not just how we care for patients, but how we lead, collaborate, and grow as a team.
Over the years, we’ve expanded our services, adopted leading-edge technology, and built strong partnerships with local physicians, athletic trainers, and wellness providers. But at our core, we remain grounded in what matters most—helping people move better, live stronger, and get back to doing what they love.
Forza isn’t just a place for physical therapy—it’s a place where compassion meets expertise, and where every client is treated like family. As we continue to grow, we’re looking for people who believe in that same approach to care: clinically sharp, community-focused, and committed to making a difference—one person at a time.
