THE NUMBERS
• 24 outpatient orthopedic PT clinics in California, Arizona, and North Carolina.
• Over 375 Team Members of multiple backgrounds and disciplines, including PTs who are board certified specialists in the areas of orthopedics, geriatrics, sports, vestibular, parkinsons, and hand therapy.
• We are employee owned!
HISTORY
Those numbers make us sound like a big corporation - right? Well, we aren't... here's how we work and how we've grown. We are people driven, and have grown organically as we've found people who have the same ideals we do. What are those ideals?
When Jim Glinn Jr. founded the company in 1999, he wanted to create something unique, he had a vision for what PT could be and couldn't find any other practice like it. So, he started his own company. Jim's vision was three-fold. First, to be active and to give back to the community. Second, to engage with people on multiple levels so they WANT to come to therapy. And third, to provide career paths and educational opportunities for the team. That's it. That's how we were founded. Very early on Jim found several other PTs with the same ideals and passions, and they grew organically to empower those PTs to become Clinic Directors. Present day, our goal is to hire individuals who can enhance and challenge us to continually grow and become better at what we do.
The owners of our company do not directly profit, rather, profits go one of three places... first, back into the growth of the company (after all, we can help more people together than we can alone!), second, into educational programs (residency, con-ed, director training, etc) and third, back to the team via our profit sharing program! We work together towards common goals for mutual benefit. Simple.
Again, Jim’s vision was to create a collaborative, community involved team that prioritized patient care above all else and also had fun working together to change the lives of those they treated. At that time, a fundamental philosophy was established regarding the business and practice of physical therapy. These efforts led to growth from one clinic in 1999 to seventeen successful clinics today. Along the way, eight additional physical therapists became partners, and each plays a key role in the direction and continued success of the team.
As San Luis Sports Therapy grew, so did its identity! We are known as Avid Physical Therapy, Athlon Physical Therapy, Central Valley Physical Therapy, Delta Physical Therapy, San Luis Sports Therapy, Score Physical Therapy, Specialized Physical Therapy, and collectively as Team Movement For Life. Our Administrative and Billing teams are based out of San Luis Obispo, CA and provide support to each clinic location. Within the Administrative team, departments include Accounting, Human Resources, Marketing, Business Development, as well as our Founder and our President who are both PTs. Each region has its own Business Development Director who coordinates marketing and community involvement in concert with the local Clinic Directors. The names and roles get complicated but don't worry, we have maps and cheat sheets :)
The company’s expansion has provided opportunities for team members and other professional colleagues who recognize the value and vision of our team to deliver the same level of service within our communities. We believe that our Team should share in the successes of Movement For Life® in a tangible way.
Our Team is the largest employee-owned outpatient private practice in the United States. Each year the company funds contributions to team members' employee stock ownership accounts at no cost to the team member. This further echos the value placed on each person within the company. We have amazing team members that are motivated and rewarded for their contributions to the Team, making it the award winning practice that it is. Come join a team where being an owner means having a stable present while building your future.
We are creating a legacy.
Together, we are Movement For Life. Join the Movement!

CLINIC DIRECTOR TRAINING
The Movement For Life team is always looking for enthusiastic and entrepreneurial physical therapists looking for a worthwhile career with rewarding opportunities to run their own clinic! We host a comprehensive training program for future Clinic Directors. Learn what you need to know to successfully open and run your own clinic! Team Movement For Life® is proud to offer a director track that ranges from 6 months to 18 months depending on management experience. Once you're done with the training, we start scouting out a location and provide you the resources to help your clinic thrive! One of the major benefits in being a Director with our team is the amount of support staff and services you have available to you. We have a team of administrators and billers who are committed to seeing all our clinics succeed.
We also offer a business management training to any other team members interested in leadership training!
CONTINUING EDUCATION
We host 1-3 weekend courses per year, free to the team (including travel!). Course topics are determined by staff suggestions, feedback from past courses, as well as new programs the practice is introducing. We also host Monthly Clinical Webinars to review evaluation, treatment, and clinical reasoning in various areas of PT practice. These Webinars alone are enough to cover your CEUs. We pay for course tuition for team members to attend one clinical course per year with Clinic Director’s approval; additional courses can be approved by our Clinical Development Committee. There is flexibility in this benefit to allow the Clinic Director and each Physical Therapist to create an individual plan for career development to compliment the clinic and individual’s goals/vision.
As of 2013, we have opened up our fantastic Con-Ed courses to people outside the company. Visit our Education section for more information!
PHYSICAL THERAPIST TRAINING & MENTORING PROGRAMS
We understand starting a new job can be difficult, especially as a new grad! The Movement for Life 3 month Mentoring Program provides a support structure for new clinicians to orient to our team as well as learn and grow as a therapist. The mentee is paired with an experienced clinician in their clinic, generally the Clinic Director. This program is a three month self-paced curriculum that reviews our mission and vision, musculoskeletal physical therapy, patient communication and building rapport. We also include time for you and your mentor to begin building a professional development plan to help you meet your goals. During this program you will have the opportunity to observe your mentor treating patients and they will also observe you and provide feedback. There is specific mentoring time built into your weekly schedule to allow for consistent discussion and learning.
Every new PT and PTA hire additionally go through a PT Training Program complete with resources, references, training on who we are, why and how we do what we do! Generally this is a 2-3 hour training and you are given a large packet for future reference.
TRANSITIONAL DPT
We also offer tuition assistance to support tDPT programs to PT’s desiring to obtain their transitional doctorate.
SPT CLINICAL EDUCATION
Acting as a mentor to SPTs is a valuable opportunity to demonstrate your ability to articulate and demonstrate physical therapy knowledge. Following one year of clinical experience, Physical Therapists are given the opportunity to mentor PT students. The practice hosts 60+ students per year from around the country so opportunities to mentor abound.
A HAPPY TEAM = HAPPY CLIENTS!
If you’ve ever run into us at CSM, you’d know we are a good time. This group of locally managed orthopedic outpatient physical therapy clinics knows how to live it up. We run a very collaborative model; with professionals from multiple backgrounds and disciplines coming together to create amazing results. We truly function like a team. We rely on each other for support, feedback, mentorship and expertise.
We love what we do. We love helping people – employees and clients alike. Our goal is to keep our team happy, engaged, rewarded, and enthusiastic. We do everything we can to support the lives of our team as happy, balanced individuals… and we are always listening for ways to get better!
The Movement For Life Team provides opportunities to advance your education and career, whether your goal is to specialize clinically and/or to direct your own clinic, we want to be your partner to help you reach your goals. We know that happy team members mean happy clients, and we are always trying to improve the experience our clients have when they visit a Movement For Life® clinic.
Our team likes to have fun! You can catch us most holidays having decorating contests between offices, playing interactive games with clients and staff and finding fun new creative ways to connect and entertain our clients. Of course patient care comes first, and our team’s priority is always quality of care, but we also believe throwing a little magic into the mix can enhance that care just a bit! We take pride in the fun, exciting atmosphere and relationship we create with our team. And… we would love to show you more!
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
We are very involved in the communities we have the opportunity to serve. We believe that healthcare is local and should be a collaborative effort. We see ourselves as an integral part of each client’s medical team so are committed to communication, team work and support of all members of the medical team.
Being a part of the community is something we are very passionate about. Annually, Team Movement For Life® collaborates with local school districts to fund the cost of providing Athletic Training services in nine local high schools totaling several hundred thousand dollars each year. These programs provide daily on-site medical coverage for student athletes at practices and games including the recent launch of ImPACT, a valuable concussion-testing program. The Athletic Training program allows financially challenged schools to ensure the health and safety of their student-athletes. This is just one way we reach out.
Throughout the year, each of the clinics collect money for local causes and participates in local events such as the MS Walk, the Heart Walk, Go Red for Women, START!, Miracle Miles for Kids, Relay for Life and many more. Led by our team of Athletic Trainers, we support Breast Cancer Awareness by outfitting local high school athletes in pink shirts and gear for Pink October. Our team also finds great pleasure in sponsoring local athletic teams and organizations, and providing community lectures and free backpack screenings for kids in all clinics.
