Services for Brain Injury (SBI) is a comprehensive rehabilitation system located in San Jose, California, providing therapy in an outpatient settings for clients with various severities of brain injury. SBI provides a comprehensive rehabilitation program based on the client's needs, employing highly skilled therapists and implementing a wide range of services from PT/OT/ST, community outings and job coaching.
Company History
Services for Brain Injury (SBI) was established 26 years ago (August 1989) as a 501C3 through Santa Clara Valley Medical Center (VMC). Health care professionals saw the need for a community-based organization to help people with acquired traumatic brain injury (ATBI) to obtain services and advocacy for independent living and employment.
To develop employment programs, SBI merged with a compatible provider in 1991 (Steppingstones at the YMCA) and engaged in numerous community collaborations to deliver quality services. SBI has grown from its original church hall facility of 2,000 sq. ft. adjacent to VMC to its present 18,000 sq. ft. building in North San Jose.
Almost 16 years ago, SBI was awarded an establishment grant from the DOR to open a satellite location in the East Bay. SBI has sustained its satellite since the establishment grant, and it is now located on Broadway in Oakland.
