Company Overview
Trinity Regional Health System (TRHS) is a four-campus health care provider located on the western border of Illinois and the eastern border of Iowa. Trinity’s campuses include Trinity Rock Island and Trinity Moline in Illinois, and Trinity Bettendorf and Trinity Muscatine in Iowa.
As a community-based hospital, Trinity Regional Health System is focused on the people and quality of life that makes this a great area to live and work. Company History
Trinity Medical Center was created on October 1, 1992, as the result of the consolidation of United Medical Center (founded in 1988) and Franciscan Medical Center (founded in 1972). Trinity purchased the former Davenport Medical Center in 1999 and built the new and only hospital in Bettendorf, which opened in February 2004. Trinity Medical Center (Moline, Rock Island and Bettendorf) and Trinity Muscatine are separate hospitals within Trinity Regional Health System. Trinity Muscatine is the newest hospital to join Trinity Regional Health System in July 2009 and serves the Muscatine County region.
Notable Accomplishments / Recognition
Trinity was selected in March 2011 as a Thomson Reuters 100 Top Hospital, the only Quad-Cities hospital to earn this distinction. Hospitals are evaluated on 10 criteria, and require top performance throughout the entire health care system.
Awarded for clinical outcomes, patient safety, growth and strong financial management, Trinity is one of two hospitals in the state of Iowa to win this award, and one of three hospitals in Illinois outside the Chicago area.
Trinity was also named a Top 100 Hospital in 2007. In 2009, Iowa Health System received a similar distinction from Thomson Reuters for being a top health care system in the nation.
Trinity's Illinois campuses have earned The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval™ for certification as a Primary Stroke Center as of May 2011. Achieving this certification means that we meet certain national standards for both length of time needed to treat a stroke patient as well as their treatment outcomes. An independent, not-for-profit organization, The Joint Commission is the nation's oldest and largest standards-setting and accrediting body in health care.
The vasular labs at all three Quad-Cities campuses receieved their 20th consecutive accreditation from the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories.
Trinity cardiologist Dr. Nicolas Shammas presented in Washington D.C. about the research he oversaw at 10 sites on a minimally invasive catheter system. Trinity Bettendrof was one of those research sites.
The HeartAware program was ranked in the top 20 in the nation for number of online heart disease risk assessments completed.
Trinity Bettendorf became the first cath lab in the world to use a new, longer angioplasty balloon to treat larger blockages. The Admiral Xtreme 300mm Long Balloon was incorporated by Dr. Eric Dippel. The Robert Young Cetner received a $270,000 grant over three years to further develop an integrated system of physical and behavioral health care.
Trinity's mental health facility was chosen as one of 40 sites in the country to participate in a new project studying the effects of long-acting injectable drugs for patients with bi-polar disorder and schizophrenia.
A new ADHD (attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder) clinic opened at Trinity moline. This center is the first of it's kind and aims to provide answers to parents and caregivers regarding treatment and support. Trinity Rock Island and Trinity Bettendorf were named a Blue Distinction Center for Knee and Hip Replacement, meeting objective and evidence-based criteria for safety, quality, and clinical expertise. Trinity Bettendorf is one of 15 locations in the U.S. that was selected to participate in a new research trial studying an interventional procedure as a treatment for erectile dysfunction.
One of 24 sites nationwide participating in a study to see if special exercises can help prevent lymphedema from occuring in breast cancer patients after surgery. Trinity Bettendorf's BirthPlace unit began an expansion project to move towards a Labor/Delivery and Mother/Baby model.
Trinity Regional Health System was one of six featured Illinois hospitals, and the only one outside of Chicago, to be featured for having zero ICU infections.
