The WCU School of Nursing (SON) is a growing, dynamic unit housed in both the HHS building in Cullowhee and at Biltmore Park in Asheville. WCU Nursing serves over 500 degree-seeking students and provides courses for 400 additional students in pre-nursing programs. The SON is the academic home for 45 faculty (fixed-term and tenure track)/staff members who provide instruction within 10 undergraduate and graduate programs. SON programs are accredited/approved by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, the North Carolina Board of Nursing, and the Council on Accreditation Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs.
Western Carolina University (WCU) is a dynamic, regional comprehensive, fast-growing member of the 17-campus University of North Carolina system. Located in Cullowhee, North Carolina, WCU is situated in a beautiful valley of the Blue Ridge Mountains, 52 miles west of Asheville and adjacent to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The College of Health and Human Sciences (CHHS) is comprised of five academic Departments and/or Schools including the School of Nursing, the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, the Department of Physical Therapy, the Department of Social Work, and the School of Health Sciences. The CHHS mission is to serve students and communities through an active learning environment that uses inter-professional collaboration and scholarship to develop healthcare professionals skilled in patient-centered care, evidence-based practice, quality improvement, innovative technology, and community engagement. The CHHS embraces the “Boyer Model” of scholarship and encourages the scholarship of teaching and learning. CHHS is housed on the Cullowhee campus in the 46,000 square foot Health and Human Sciences (HHS) building. CHHS has a significant presence in Asheville at Biltmore Park.
