- ASSISTANT PROFESSOR DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICAL THERAPY
Description
Samford University’s School of Health Professions seeks a collaborative faculty member interested in serving in a Christian university environment to apply for the position of Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy. This full-time, tenure-track faculty position is a 12-month appointment and will begin October 1, 2026.
Qualifications: Qualified candidates will be a graduate of a CAPTE-accredited physical therapy program and have a minimum of three years of experience as a practicing physical therapist by start date. In addition, candidates must hold an academic doctoral degree (PhD, EdD, DSc or similar) or be actively enrolled in an academic doctoral program by the start date in order to meet CAPTE Standards and Required Elements for Accreditation Standard 4 (Updated Sept. 16, 2025).

- Eligibility for licensure as a Physical Therapist in Alabama
- A commitment to academic excellence
- Ability to work effectively with faculty, students and colleagues
- Willingness to engage in community outreach activities, including serving in our pro-bono physical therapy clinic.
- Willingness to support the Christian mission of Samford University and the College of Health Sciences
- Willingness to travel for university-related purposes, as needed
Responsibilities: Major responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:
- Teach courses in the DPT curriculum
- Mentor students
- Engage in scholarly activity, including research, presentations, and publications
- Engage in departmental, school, college, and/or university service as assigned
- Participate in departmental initiatives, program assessment, and accreditation activities
- Support curriculum development and continuous improvement
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive environment for students, faculty, and staff
- Other responsibilities assigned by department chair, dean, provost, or president and those described in the Samford University Faculty Handbook sections A6.1 and A6.2.
Preference will be given to candidates with the following qualifications:
- Experience teaching in a CAPTE-accredited PT program
